Building resilience one plant at a time! We partnered with Middle-Fork Willamette & McKenzie Watershed Councils to create firewise landscaping designs for the high school building. Our students in Mr. O'Hare's construction classes are leading the charge, swapping flammable wood chips for non-flammable rocks and planting native fire-resistant plants. It was a great afternoon finding ways to make our campus safer and more beautiful together!

Classroom Curiosity! Our students in the McKenzie After-School program students recently got to take a special trip to the Museum of Natural & Cultural History at the University of Oregon. The museum is a treasure trove of information about the history of Oregon, Saber-tooth Salmon and Giant Sloths. Our students had a blast.

We are heading into the final couple of weeks of basketball. It has been an amazing season watching the growth of our players and teams. Continuing our recognition of our dedicated school board members, today we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Melissa Norlund! Melissa loves being able to have an active role in district decisions that affect our students, staff, and community. Melissa's commitment runs deep. She's not just a board member; she's a McKenzie graduate who's been actively involved in the district since before her own child attended school. She joined the board to help shape the future of the district for her child and all the other students. Thank you for your unwavering support.

As a part of School Board Appreciation Month, we are highlighting our special board members. Today, we spotlight Danna Brownell and her outstanding commitment to our children's education. She shared her inspiring perspective on why she's devoted to this essential work. "I'm in it for the education of our kids. In a world filled with complexities, it's an honor to contribute to something that truly matters." She’s passionate about education and its positive impact on our lives, and she appreciates the responsibility of representing her neighbors in the stewardship of this vital community institution. Thank you, Danna, for serving on the board and serving our community.

Classroom Curiosity Alert! Our elementary students were thrilled to welcome Sluggo recently for the 'Sluggo's Home Run Reading Challenge.’ Students are diving into books for a chance to score big with two tickets to an exciting Eugene Emeralds baseball game this summer. Let the reading adventure begin!

As part of School Board Appreciation Month, we are highlighting our special board members. Today, we spotlight Elaine Bryson and her passion for educating the next generation, especially as the community works to combat the lasting effects of the Holiday Farm Fire and the COVID-19 pandemic. Elaine says, “I am impressed with the dedication and commitment of our board members, administration, teachers, and our staff.
